From the Dan review, Sep 3. Stop iterating whole sites; pick a style, a hero, and an ordered set of blocks, and look at the result in place (section 4). Edit the arrays at the top of the script in this file to change the menu; the blocks themselves live in /blocks/lib/. Notes: decision log · all drafts. Copy pass Sep 10: a how block (what a slowdown is, in MIRI's structure), trials and wins blocks, a plan hero; source texts in docs/fodder/, reasoning in docs/copy-research-2026-09-10.md.
TLDR of the review
Go modular. Decide which blocks, in what order, make a good scroll-down site; then settle style. Mix and match favourites.
Style: /vid and /oliver, not /slow. /slow's colours and caution imagery are out ("people really dislike caution icons"); /ro is too opinionated and app-like. None look "particularly great" yet; winners iterate.
Short pages. Emerson's has too much stuff. Don't upsell reading; pump people to channels (orgs) instead.
"Do one of the things", but the email list isn't one of the things. Capture is plumbing, keep it non-invasive.
Hashtag off the pedestal. People on X don't know it; show social support instead. Stats are fine. Find-your-people is fine and pairs with a chatbot.
Chatbot worth a test as its own page: scalable 1:1s that help people update, not persuade.
Open: what are we maximising (list, channel push, signatures)? Test orderings with ads. Post–Team Human campaign with Humane Design and Jen (marketing) still to merge. 99designs: still open, pending votes; Dan liked #248 and the hand-stock one.
1 · Style options the visual system, independent of content
2 · Hero variants the first screen; decides the bounce
3 · Blocks atomic pieces of substance; each can go in any order. Tagged CTA (asks for something) or normal. Video mockups: /mockups
4 · Assemble one pick a style and a hero, order the blocks, and see the page
Paste the link into Slack or a Linear comment; it opens the same page for anyone. The film hero plays each time the preview reloads (scroll or click inside it to skip ahead). Forms validate and confirm but send nothing.
